OUTLINE

Our department specializes in diseases such as hypertensive diseases (primary, secondary, and others), kidney diseases (primary glomerular disease, nephrotic syndrome, diabetic nephropathy, and others), endocrine and metabolic disorders (hypothalamic, pituitary, adrenal disease, thyroid disease, parathyroid disease, diabetes, and obesity, hyperlipidemia), and autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, SLE, and closely related disorders. We aim to foster excellent clinical scientists capable of in-depth research based on clinical insights. In nephrology, we have clarified one of the mechanisms connecting microalbuminuria and cereberocardiovascular disease. We focus on both molecular studies of various renal diseases, and clinical studies, with the ultimate goal of providing good evidence for clinical guidelines, as well as developing new therapeutic strategies,. In endocrinology, , our ‘Tohoku University team’ (our division, Pathology, Radiology and Urology Divisions) on primary aldosteronism is recognized as one of the top centers in the world. We have recently developed the method of measuring plasma aldosterone and active renin concentrations in only ten minutes. In rheumatology, we focus on molecular and cellular mechanism for development of autoimmune diseases. We encourage young researchers to act internationally .
