OUTLINE

Respiratory medicine covers various diseases including obstructive pulmonary diseases represented by asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung tumors such as lung cancer, interstitial lung diseases and respiratory infectious diseases. With the rapid aging of the population, further increases in the incidence of respiratory diseases can be expected.
In our laboratory, we perform translational research by collaborating with laboratories in the basic research field and the Tohoku Medical Megabank Organization to develop biomarkers and drugs for refractory respiratory diseases. Specifically, to elucidate new disease-related molecules, we analyze various omics data in plenty of clinical specimens from patients with obstructive pulmonary diseases. Additionally, using in vitro and in vivo studies of gene-modified animals, we clarify the role of the molecules in the pathophysiology of the disease and confirm the clinical implications with large-scale cohort studies. Regarding lung cancer, we participate in large clinical studies and also conduct basal research for the onset or progress of the disease and tumor immunity. Recently, we have also focused on interstitial lung diseases and respiratory infectious diseases. As a result of our research activities, many of our papers have been published in top journals of the respiratory field, and our acquisition of research funds including the Grants-in-aid for Scientific Research has been at the top in the respiratory field in Japan.

呼吸器内科は喘息や慢性閉塞性肺疾患(COPD)に代表される閉塞性肺疾患、肺癌などの呼吸器腫瘍疾患、びまん性肺疾患、呼吸器感染症など多種多様な疾患を担当しています。急速な高齢化に伴い、呼吸器疾患に罹患する患者がさらに増加することが予測されています。
当科では難治性呼吸器疾患におけるバイオマーカーの開発や創薬のためトランスレーショナルな研究手法を駆使した研究を基礎分野の教室や東北メディカルメガバンク機構と連携し、行っています。具体的には、閉塞性肺疾患の豊富な臨床検体を用いて種々のオミックス解析を行い、新規の疾患関連分子の解明に取り組んでいます。また、in vitroや遺伝子改変動物を用いたin vivoの研究により新規分子の疾患病態における役割を明らかにし、大規模疾患コホートを用いて検証する研究を行っています。また、肺癌に関しても大規模臨床研究に加え、肺癌の発症や進展に関する基礎研究や腫瘍免疫に関する研究を行っています。最近ではびまん性肺疾患や呼吸器感染症領域の研究についても注力しています。研究成果として呼吸器分野のトップジャーナルに多くの論文が掲載されており、科研費などの研究費の取得額も全国でトップレベルを誇っています。
