OUTLINE

In each local city in Japan, including Iwaki City, where this course was established in 2013, the number of gastrointestinal patients with frailty syndrome with multiple comorbidities is rapidly increasing due to the advent of a super-aging society. However, it is often difficult to treat due to the deterioration of the function of important organs with aging. In recent years, the number of patients with inflammatory bowel disease, which is said to be an intractable disease, has exceeded 300,000, and promotion of diagnosis and treatment in the regional medical area is required.
Based on the above trends in gastrointestinal diseases, our course works closely with the Graduate School of Medicine, Tohoku University, to promote community-based medical research and medical education, and to advance the clinical practice of gastrointestinal diseases. In particular,
(1) promotion of multicenter prospective research on gastrointestinal diseases,
(2) development of new treatments for inflammatory bowel disease,
(3) establishment of appropriate treatments for digestive diseases in the super-elderly,
(4) enrichment of the curriculum for late-stage clinical training.

本講座の設立されたいわき市をはじめ日本の各地方都市では、超高齢化社会の到来により、複数の併存疾患を抱えたフレイルを呈する消化器系患者が急増しております。しかしながら、加齢に伴う重要臓器の機能低下もあり、治療に難渋する場合が少なくありません。また近年、難病と言われる炎症性腸疾患患者数は30万人を超え、地域医療圏での診断・治療の推進が求められています。
以上のような消化器疾患の動向を踏まえ、本講座は、東北大学大学院医学系研究科と密接に連携を図り、地域に根差した医学研究、医学教育の推進と、消化器疾患臨床の先進的な展開を目的として設立されました。特に
（1）消化器疾患の多施設共同前向き研究の推進、
（2）炎症性腸疾患新規治療法の開発、
（3）適正な超高齢者消化器疾患治療法の確立、
（4）前期・後期臨床研修に係るカリキュラムの充実化に力を入れております。
