Laboratory Introduction

Studies with yeast, C. elegance, mouse and rhesus monkeys have shown that calorie restriction expands their life spans. In human, excess food intake causes obesity and subsequently leads to metabolic syndrome that is characterized by decreased glucose tolerance. In our laboratory, we have identified and characterized lipoprotein receptors that play a key role in the plasma clearance of lipoproteins. We also identified and characterized several acyl-CoA synthetases that catalyze the initial reaction of fatty acid metabolism. In addition to these molecules in the lipid metabolism, we are studying on the metabolic regulation mediated by wnt proteins.
