数多くの重要論文の中から、歴史的な論文を紹介します。

    カナダ・トロント大学のFrederick Grant Bantingらがインスリンの発見を発表したのは1921(大正10)年12月ですが、同時期、東北帝国大学の熊谷岱蔵教授も制御分子(後のインスリン)の存在を報告していました。インスリンの発見者として歴史に名を残したのは、カナダ・トロント大学のFrederick Grant Bantingでしたが(1923年ノーベル賞受賞)、熊谷岱蔵教授の業績も高く評価されます。東北大学における糖尿病研究の伝統は現在に引き継がれています。

      なお、齋藤善兵先生の指導教授である藤田敏彦先生はFounding Editorのお一人です。

    東北大学・元学長である本川弘一先生と岩手医科大学・元学長の三田俊定先生による、ヒト網膜の活動電流特性に関する論文であり、網膜電位図(Electroretinogram, ERG)の基礎を築きました。
    なお、本川先生は、TJEMの元編集長 (1944-1965)であり、戦中・戦後の激動の中、TJEMの刊行に奔走されました。しかし、終戦直後の1946年の一年だけは、止むなく休刊となりました。

    東北大学小児科の東音高先生の論文は新たな疾患概念確立の端緒となりました。
    東先生は白血球機能の異常を呈するChediak-Higashi病の発見者として知られています。
