NIH-Japan Early-Stage Investigator Forum 2024 Successfully Held

On December 6, 2024, the “NIH-Japan Early-Stage Investigator Forum 2024” was held in a hybrid format at the Seiryo Auditorium, attracting over 200 participants, including undergraduate and graduate students as well as early-career researchers.
Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, Tohoku University and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) have promoted collaboration through four joint symposia since 2013. Based on the strengthened interactions, the forum commenced last year to provide young researchers with role models who have conducted research abroad.
The forum began with opening remarks by Dr. Naoto Ishii, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine, and Dr. Michael M. Gottesman, former Deputy Director of the NIH. Next, Drs. Kazusa Ishii and Yuichi Machida delivered inspiring lectures on their current biomedical research work and career from the NIH as well as Dr. Risa Shibuya, Department of Respiratory Medicine, Tohoku University.
The event concluded with valuable messages from speakers concerning career development, moderated by Dr. Reiko Toyama, Program Director, NICHD.
This forum is expected to strengthen collaborations with the NIH and promote exchange investigators, especially among early-career researchers.
