Ophthalmologists from Cambodia and Vietnam conducted a training program at the Department of Ophthalmology at Tohoku University Hospital
As part of international exchange activities, the Tohoku University COI-NEXT “Vision to Connect” Center offers a training program at the Department of Ophthalmology at Tohoku University Hospital for invited ophthalmologists from Cambodia and Vietnam.
Two ophthalmologists from the Royal Calmette Hospital in Cambodia participated the training program for four weeks, and one ophthalmologist from the Eye Hospital of Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam attended for ten days.
On the final day of the training program, they paid a courtesy call on Hospital Director Hideo Harigae. During the visit, Professor Toru Nakazawa of the Department of Ophthalmology provided an overview of the training program and reported on the outcomes of the hands-on program, which included clinical observations and surgical observations. It was also announced that ophthalmologists from Cambodia are scheduled to visit this fall. Furthermore, building on the existing collaboration with the Eye Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, the program aims to advance discussions toward the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the institutions.
This initiative is expected to contribute to the further development of international exchange at the COI-NEXT-VC Center.
Participants in the training program shared positive feedback. Dr. Uan Sopanyat commented, “The training program in an environment equipped with state-of-the-art facilities was extremely fulfilling,” and Dr. Let San Hee noted, “It was very meaningful to observe actual surgeries.” Additionally, Dr. Nguyen Quang Dai expressed his gratitude to Professor Nakazawa for his ongoing activities in Vietnam.
COI-NEXT-VC Center will continue to be committed to fostering international medical professionals and promoting academic exchange.
