NIH-Japan Early-Stage Investigator Forum 2023 was held
The NIH-Japan Early-Stage Investigator Forum 2023 was held at Seiryo Auditorium on December 14, 2023.
Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine and the National Institute of Health (NIH) have held collaborative symposiums four times since 2013, and this was the first time to be hybrid.
Following the opening remarks by Dr. Naoto Ishii, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine, and Dr. Michael M. Gottesman, former Deputy Director of the NIH, the lecture session was held in the first part of the event. Dr. Yoshimi Greer Endo and Dr. Takeo Fujii, from the NIH, and Dr. Yoshiharu Okamoto and Dr. Yusuke Shibuya, who have studied at the NIH and are currently at Tohoku University Hospital, gave talks on their research at NIH and career. In the second part, a panel discussion on career development was held moderated by Dr. Reiko Toyama of NIH.
More than 200 early-stage medical and biomedical researchers from both inside and outside of Tohoku University, mainly the third-year medical students, participated in this forum and actively asked questions to the panelists.
It is expected that joint research and exchange with NIH, especially among early-stage researchers, will be developed further in the future.
