OUTLINE

Dr. Inoue, who became the first professor in this department in 2015, practices "early palliative care" in parallel with "appropriate cancer treatment" based on his background as a medical oncologist. The number of interventions during cancer treatment in palliative care team and outpatient clinics is one of the highest in Japan. In addition, this department is a member of J-Support, a national research organization in the palliative care field, and is actively engaged in clinical research. There are many themes for obtaining a degree as a graduate student, and those studies can also be conducted as a doctor or research student. Tohoku University Hospital is a training facility certified by the Japanese Society of Palliative Medicine, and opens the way for palliative care specialists and certified doctors. In addition to abundant clinical training in the palliative care ward, gaining experience in palliative care in collaboration with each department as a palliative care team, and local areas such as Okabe Clinic and Yamato Home Clinic (Tome), which are pioneers of home palliative care.

2000年10月に国立大学病院で初の緩和ケア病棟が東北大学病院で稼働を始め、2008年に当分野が開設されました。2015年に当分野初代教授に着任した井上は、がん薬物療法専門医としての背景をふまえ、「適切ながん治療」と並行した「早期からの緩和ケア」を実践し、「緩和ケアチーム」や「緩和ケア外来」におけるがん治療中からの介入数は全国有数です（図1）。さらに当分野は、緩和領域における全国的な研究組織J-Supportの主要メンバーであり、臨床研究にも積極的に取り組んでいます。大学院生として学位を取得する際のテーマは豊富で、それらの研究は医員や研究生として行うことも可能です。
　東北大学病院は、日本緩和医療学会認定の研修施設であり、緩和ケア専門医・認定医への道も開けます。緩和ケア病棟での豊富な臨床研修に加え、緩和ケアチームとして各科と連携した緩和ケアの経験を積むことや、在宅緩和ケアの先駆けである岡部医院ややまと在宅診療所（登米）など地域の連携施設で学ぶことも可能です（図2）。
臨床と研究を希望に応じたバランスで取り組むことが可能なのが当分野の特色であり、緩和領域では全国有数の規模を誇ります（図3）。
