OUTLINE
The Laboratory of Acute and Critical Care Nursing focuses on the recovery and social reintegration of critically ill patients who have received intensive care. Our main research areas are post-intensive care syndrome (PICS), which encompasses long-term physical, mental, and cognitive impairments after critical illness, and social reintegration, including return to work. We also investigate clinical factors that influence these outcomes, such as delirium, physical restraint, sedation, and early rehabilitation. Our aim is not merely to describe long-term outcomes, but to identify modifiable factors and develop practical approaches that improve nursing care from the intensive care unit (ICU) through to life after discharge.
We conduct multicenter observational studies, longitudinal cohort studies, and systematic reviews. We value collaboration across institutions and countries with nurses, physicians, rehabilitation professionals, patients, and researchers.
Through research and education, we seek to strengthen evidence-based critical care nursing and to help patients overcome critical illness, return smoothly to society, and regain a life that is truly their own. We welcome students and collaborators interested in PICS, long-term outcomes, delirium, patient experience, and nursing across the continuum from prevention of deterioration to recovery and social reintegration.
