OUTLINE

We are working on the field of “hormone and cancer” and conducting research on the various organs, such as the breast, adrenal gland and lung. For instance, estrogen plays an important role in the development of breast cancers, and endocrine therapies are frequently used in these patients. In our department, we analyze pathogenesis of human disorders by pathological methods as well as various molecular biological techniques. Collaborative research is active, and we are attempting to explore the novel prognostic and therapeutic biomarkers in these disorders. In addition, we are also devising the novel pathological diagnostic criteria of functioning adrenocortical disorders through extensive consultation materials.

病理診断学分野では、“ホルモンと癌”をキーワードとして、乳腺、副腎、肺等様々な臓器を対象に研究を進めています。例えば乳癌の発育進展には女性ホルモンのエストロゲンが大変重要な役割を担っており、その作用を制御することで治療が可能です。当分野では、病気の原因や機序を明らかにする学問である“病理学”を研究の基盤としています。我々は病理組織標本を詳細に解析し、得られた知見や仮説を、細胞培養や動物モデル等様々な研究手法を用いて多角的に実証します。このように病理学的解析と分子生物学的解析を研究の両輪とすることで、オリジナリティーにあふれた研究成果を生み出しています。他との共同研究も活発で、治療に関する研究も精力的に進めています。さらに当分野は副腎病理の中心地であり、多くのコンサルテーション標本を基に機能性副腎皮質疾患の病理学的診断基準の作成にも取り組んでいます。
