OUTLINE

Drug treatments of many common diseases are not established although they affect QOL of many patients. The purpose of our studies is to combat these diseases employing new mouse models we developed. From much of our research we found versatile beneficial effects of vitamin B3 nicotinamide on many disorders. For instance it prevents and reverses preeclampsia, It ameliorates fetal growth restriction associated with preeclampsia. Clinical studies to confirm beneficial effect and safety of using nicotinamide for preeclampsia are ongoing. Nicotinamide also ameliorates many kidney diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders.
The areas of our research focus on : ・Development and clinical application of new drugs for preeclampsia with different genetic background ・Understanding and solving problems of mothers with preeclampsia and their children after delivery ・Development and clinical application of new drugs for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) including diabetic nephropathy and acute kidney injury ・Clarifying pathogenesis of and developing drugs for sarcopenia and other complications due to CKD

患者数が多くとも、病因が不明で、治療が確立していない疾患は多数ある。私達は新たなマウスモデルを作成して用いたりしながらコチンアミドが多様で有用な働きを持ち、種々の病気の治療に有効であることを明らかにした。例えば、ニコチンアミドはマウスの妊娠高血圧腎症の発症を予防し、発症後に改善すること、CKD(慢性腎臓病)を含め、種々の腎臓病などに有効であることなどである。
現在、次のようなテーマの研究を行っている:妊娠高血圧症候群・糖尿病性腎症・メタボリック症候群などの病態と治療に関する基礎的・臨床的研究、妊娠高血圧症候群の出産後の母子の問題点の理解とその解決の研究 、尿中カルボニル化合物による生活習慣病マーカーの開発、糖尿病性腎症を含むCKDの低侵襲早期診断マーカーの探索および新規治療薬の開発と臨床応用 、CKDによるサルコペニア等合併症の病態解明と治療薬の開発 。
