●Infectious Disease Control in a Globalized World
With globalization, the risk of emerging infectious diseases has risen to unprecedented levels. It is estimated that more than 25 million people died during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the possibility of a future pandemic causing even greater impact cannot be ruled out. We collaborate with researchers worldwide to study infectious disease control, including preparedness for pandemics.

●Infectious Disease Research at Overseas Sites
In the Philippines, we have established a research hub for infectious diseases since 2008 and have been conducting international collaborative studies, particularly on pediatric respiratory infections. In Zambia, we conduct global collaborative research focusing on respiratory viruses such as RSV.

●Approaching Infectious Diseases Through Integrated Knowledge
As the COVID-19 pandemic has shown, infectious disease challenges can no longer be addressed by medical science alone. Through dialogue and collaboration with researchers from the humanities and social sciences, we explore new approaches to infectious disease control for the future.

●グローバル化の中の感染症対策
グローバル化とともに新興感染症のリスクはかつてないまでに高まっています。COVID-19のパンデミックでは2500万人以上が死亡したと推計されていますが、COVID-19よりも大きな被害をもたらすパンデミックが起こる可能性もあります。世界の研究者と共同してパンデミック対策を含む感染症対策について研究しています。

●海外拠点での感染症研究
フィリピンでは2008年から感染症研究拠点を設置して国際共同研究を実施してきています。特に、小児呼吸器感染症を中心に研究を行っています。また、ザンビアではRSウイルスなどの呼吸器ウイルスを中心とした国際共同研究を行っています。

●感染症を総合知から考える
COVID-19のパンデミックから明らかになったように、感染症の問題は医学だけで解決する問題ではなくなっています。人文社会学を含めた幅広い研究者との議論を通じて今後の感染症対策の在り方を考えていきます。
