Department of medical ethics has been engaged in biomedical ethics education in the School of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine as well as other faculties and graduate schools at Tohoku University. In particular, we have been offering the Leadership Training Course in Medical Ethics and Public Health Ethics as a special course for the master\'s program. The course consists of “Clinical Ethics and Case Study,” “Research Ethics and Ethics Committee,” “Introduction to Ethics and Bioethics,” “Descriptive Ethics and Empirical Study,” “Public Health Ethics,” “Medical Humanities.” You can learn the whole picture of modern biomedical ethics and research methods in descriptive ethics studies, and you can also experience actual ethics committee activities in a regular basis. Concerning research activities, we have conducted normative arguments and empirical research on various ethical issues related to healthcare, medical ethics, and public health. We have recently published papers about prenatal screening policy, vaccine policy, surrogate decision making, ethical/psychological/social issues concerning Covid-19 pandemic, ethics in end-of-life/geriatric medicine, medical assistance in dying, shared decision-making and culture, research on health supremacy society, research ethics and research fraud, clinical ethics consultation, polypharmacy and clinical use of placebo, medical device reuse, etc. We are also involved in clinical ethics consultation at the Tohoku University Hospital.

本分野は医学部・医学系研究科をはじめ、他の学部・研究科にて生命医療倫理学教育に従事してきました。特に修士課程の特別コースとして『医療倫理・公衆衛生倫理指導者養成コース』を提供しています。「臨床倫理演習」、「研究倫理実践論」、「倫理学・生命倫理学概論」、「記述倫理・実証研究入門」、「公衆衛生倫理概論」、「医療倫理学??（医療人文学）」等があり、現代の生命・医療倫理学の全体像と研究方法を学ぶことができ、実際の倫理審査も体験することができます。研究活動としては、医療・公衆衛生に関わる多様な倫理的課題を対象に規範的考察及び実証研究を行っています。最近は出生前スクリーニング政策、ワクチン政策、代理意思決定、Covid-19感染に関わる倫理・心理・社会的課題、終末期・高齢者医療における倫理、医学的な死の幇助、共同意思決定と文化、健康至上主義社会の問題、医療AI導入の問題、研究倫理と研究不正、臨床倫理コンサルテーション事例分析、ポリファーマシー及び臨床的プラシーボ使用の倫理、医療器具の再利用、先住民族の人権問題などに関する研究を行っています。加えて、東北大学病院の臨床倫理コンサルテーションにも従事しています。
