OUTLINE

The main research themes are the view of health as a culture and the promotion of the health of socio-cultural groups. In our field, we value the idea that health is not something that the profession can provide, but a culture that people foster in their daily lives.
We believe that being humble in cultural diversity and learning from people's way of life are the starting points of our research.

公衆衛生は、地域住民と専門職が力を合わせて社会の共有財産である健康と生命・生活・人生を衛（まもる）実践科学です。この領域の看護職（保健師など）は、変化し続ける地域社会の一員として、その地域におけるその時代の真の豊かさや暮らしの質（QOL：Quality of Life）を問い続け、予防的ケアを実践しながら、人々と共に健康文化を創造するヘルスプロモーションの専門家です。私たちの分野では、健康とは、専門職が提供できるものではなく、人々が日々の暮らしの営みの中で醸成していく文化であるという考え方を大切にしています。
主な研究テーマは、文化としての健康観と社会文化的集団の健康増進です。地域には、様々な社会文化的集団（サブコミュニティ）が存在します。年代・境遇・疾患・障害等より、そのサブコミュニティの人々にとっての健康観は、実に多様です。どのような時にいきいきとできるか、活力や安寧を感じるか、元気の源や秘訣と合わせて探求し、ケアや支援の方法を開発しています。文化の多様性に謙虚であること、人々の暮らし方から学ぶことは、研究の原点であると考えています。
