論文の入手さえ困難な時代であったにも関わらず、驚異的な被引用数の論文が存在します。

    カナダ・トロント大学のFrederick Grant Bantingらがインスリンの発見を発表したのは1921(大正10)年12月ですが、同時期、東北帝国大学の熊谷岱蔵教授も制御分子(後のインスリン)の存在を報告していました。インスリンの発見者として歴史に名を残したのは、カナダ・トロント大学のFrederick Grant Bantingでしたが(1923年ノーベル賞受賞)、熊谷岱蔵教授の業績も高く評価されます。東北大学における糖尿病研究の伝統は現在に引き継がれています。

    東北大学・元学長である本川弘一先生と岩手医科大学・元学長の三田俊定先生による、ヒト網膜の活動電流特性に関する論文であり、網膜電位図(Electroretinogram, ERG)の基礎を築きました。
    なお、本川先生は、TJEMの元編集長 (1944-1965)であり、戦中・戦後の激動の中、TJEMの刊行に奔走されました。しかし、終戦直後の1946年の一年だけは、止むなく休刊となりました。
