In our department, we are conducting pre- and post-graduate education in kampo, kampo treatment, and a wide range of research (basic and clinical) related to kampo to seek new knowledge and to develop human resources who can provide guidance in kampo treatment, education, and research. We are currently conducting a wide range of research, some of which are listed below.
・Effects of kampo medicine on normal tension glaucoma.
・Effects of kampo herbal medicine on irritable bowel syndrome.
・Development of curative therapy for chemical hypersensitivity using kampo medicine and clarification of its mechanism.
・Genomic analysis of the relationship between kampo medicine and genes.
・Prevention of aspiration pneumonia using acupuncture in community medicine.
・Development of an effective kampo education program linking lectures and practical training, and verification of its educational effects.
・An exploratory study on the efficacy and safety of kampo medicine for anxiety and postoperative puddling associated with esophageal cancer.
・A multicenter, randomized, controlled trial of additional administration of kampo medicine for common cold-like symptoms in patients with mild to moderate COVID-19.

近年、世界中で医療に伝統医学の考えや治療法を取り入れる動きがあり、伝統医学に代表される補完・代替医療と西洋医学の治療を総合的な視点から活用する統合医療が広がりを見せています。本講座では、卒前卒後の漢方教育、漢方診療、そして漢方に関連する幅広い研究（基礎及び臨床）を行い、新たな知見を模索するとともに、漢方診療・教育・研究の指導を行える人材の育成にも取り組んでいます。現在行っている研究は多岐にわたりますが、その一部を以下に挙げています。
・正常眼圧緑内障に対する漢方薬の効果
・過敏性腸症候群に対する漢方薬の効果
・化学物質過敏症に対する漢方薬による根治療法の開発と機序の解明
・漢方における証と遺伝子との関連に関するゲノム解析
・培養ヒト気道上皮細胞を用いた漢方薬の抗ウイルス効果
・地域医療における円皮鍼を用いた誤嚥性肺炎の予防効果
・講義と実習を連動させた効果的な漢方教育プログラムの開発と教育効果の検証
・食道がんに伴う不安感および術後の溜飲に対する漢方薬の有効性および安全性に関する探索的検討
・軽症、中等症COVID-19患者の感冒様症状に対する漢方薬追加投与に関する多施設共同ランダム化比較試験
